Measurements disagree, which is why we measure it on your project. In three field experiments with 4,867 developers at Microsoft, Accenture and a Fortune 100 company, developers using GitHub Copilot completed 26.08% more tasks (Cui et al., Management Science, 2026). In METR's randomised trial, 16 experienced open-source developers took 19% longer with AI tools while estimating they had been 20% faster (July 2025); a February 2026 follow-up could not confirm a speed-up, because its confidence interval included zero. DORA's 2024 report estimated that a 25% increase in AI adoption goes with a 7.2% drop in delivery stability, and the 2025 report, based on nearly 5,000 respondents, still linked wider AI use with lower stability and higher throughput. That is why each phase report gives the number of changes shipped to production and the number of defects found after merge over the same period.
